waking up, and not on the farm. . .

Wanna know how it's been around here lately? Picture a sunrise on rolling hills of farmland all covered in snow, and the quiet that comes with the blankets of snow. The blankets of snow that force you to stay inside and do nothing but snuggle under blankets of different kinds, while reading books to your littles and drinking hot chocolate.

And now . . . picture the exact opposite scene and that's what's been going on. No snow to speak of. No quiet. Nothing forcing us to stay home and in fact, the new year that came quickly and abruptly brought a school schedule and all that goes with it.

So far, in 2014, I've written 2013 on 4 checks, haven't even checked the mail for 3 days (Christmas season snail mail is over), we still have our Christmas door mat out and bows on our porch lights, and well, I'm trying to keep one foot in my slow, farm life dream (I know that's not real farm life, but it's my dream) while trying to keep pace with the new year that has taken off and is threatening to leave me behind!

I think part of my slow adjusting to 2014 is that when we rang in the New Year, my hubby and I were on a week-long date, in the desert, which turns out is part of God's beauty too!  I never knew!

We had a sweet week, just the two of us, when we went to see our Baylor Bears play in the BCS Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix! We lost, but had such a fun time at the Pep Rally, tail gate and game! And also during the week, we had a massage, saw a movie, went for a run, had wonderful date nights and explored the Grand Canyon! It was awesome! And then, we came home to a few days left to spend with our children before school started back--and it was quality! And I am thankful!

I soaked up that week and the holiday with our children out of school and I just haven't picked up speed yet. Oh sure, we've had the must be here for this and there for that and meetings or appointments, one after another, but my brain still feels sleepy. So until I wake up to January, I'm still just dreaming and holding tight to hope that we will get some snow---even if I don't wake up on a farm!

Glad y'all had a fun trip. Sorry about Baylor:( I hear you on the busy-ness. I had such a hard time adjusting to motherhood because at first it was so un-busy, with just one baby home, nursing, pumping, napping, nursing, etc. I didn't even own a calendar until Kate started school at SMS. Now I feel like I have different school-related meetings every day, plus all their activities, etc. What I wouldn't give to stay in my pi's all day now! The grass is always greener...
