Baby Way: a walk, an article and a few other Down syndrome related tidbits. . .

It's not Friday, and I couldn't wait for an FYI Friday. . .
but it is still October and still Down Syndrome Awareness Month!!

This past weekend our crew headed over to the Step Up for Down syndrome walk in our city! Last year, Baby Way was just shy of three months old and I wasn't up for walking anywhere for anything, but was also still a little hesitant of (what I thought then as) this "new world" we were in.

This year though, Hubby led the way and we were pumped! That's my crew up there and yep, that's our third, stuffing a hot dog in his mouth! With 4 littles, it doesn't get much better than that! It was awesome to be a part of something so supportive and exciting! My favorite part of the walk was hearing Luke cheer for Way and raising Way's arms saying, "Yay, Waybe! We are here for you and everyone else who has Down syndrome!" And actually, he first said, "and all the Down syndrome people" which gave me an opportunity to let him know, (like I mentioned here last year) that we should say "people with Down syndrome" instead of Down syndrome people because we put the person first. He seemed to understand and then corrected his own comment! I love that kid! Luke is such a cheerleader for all of his brothers!

At the walk, we were able to finally meet Diane Grover, the president and founder of The IDSC (International Down Syndrome Coalition) an organization we are truly growing to love and support! Check them out and see what they do here! I'm hoping to work with her on an upcoming project! I'll be sure to let you know more, once we get things rolling!

And a another little something. . . I had no idea this was even out until a friend of mine from out of state, texted me and told me she saw Way's photo and a quote from me in an article on Yahoo, which is actually from Babble.com. Here's the article 21 Things People Don't Get About Kids With Down Syndrome. Check it out and let us know what you think! Thanks to Noah's Dad for helping this awesome article get out there!

And to wrap this up, because it is Down Syndrome Awareness Month, here are my three of my favorite blogs that are about, shed light on or touch on Down syndrome. Love how each of these blogs spread the word that Down syndrome is okay! So to Noah's DadA Perfect Lily and
Thin Places, thanks for all you do!

Thanks for stopping by my blog. You have a beautiful family. My cousin's child has Down Syndrome, and my girls have worked with many children over the years. Their old figure skating coach held classes for children who have Down Syndrome, and she encouraged the girls to get involved. Our oldest is in her first year teaching Special Education at a local high school. A career move for her, and as I mentioned the youngest who is at Baylor is a Speech Path major.
