the joy of Christmas

To be completely honest, I wasn't feeling all the Christmas joy the week before Christmas. People were sick, or grumpy. Lots going on. Lots to be done. Lots of sad things going on in the world. But, it hit me. Christmas isn't about me, or making me happy. Nor is Christmas about making our littles happy. Stores and society attempt to brainwash us that Christmas is about making kiddos happy. Sometimes, okay, every year, I fall into that line of thinking. Don't get me wrong. We love giving our children presents, and other family members as well! We love giving freshly made goodies to our friends too. But all of that is just bonus! What Christmas is really about, and you probably know this, is the birth of Jesus and how he became our greatest gift ever. But I was struggling to have that in the forefront of my mind the week before Christmas. I am very thankful for a dear friend of mine, who shared the same feelings of lacking Christmas joy, and we both prayed for each other to find that joy.

And you know what, I did! The Lord refreshed my heart just before Christmas and I am thankful! This Christmas Eve, we went to 2 services at church, back to back. I was nervous, but it was wonderful. We have a children/family service in the afternoon. Our family has never been to it, but this year our boys were in the video the church makes each year. They were interviewed about their thoughts on Christmas and we didn't want to miss it. Now, Miles was a handful, and it wasn't so much of a worship service for us, the way we normally think of worship service, but in fact, it was worshipping to have so  many of our church families there, eager, on the night before Christmas. Then, following the family service, we stayed for our candlelight service. My very favorite part of Christmas is this service! I wish I could put it into words, but I cannot. Love it. And after looking at Christmas lights following the service, our littles were eager for bed, because they were really anxious for the morning, as little kiddos just are on Christmas Eve! And with the reading of Luke 2, they were off to bed!

Christmas this year was spy watches and cameras (Luke and Charlie's only request) and books, a pogo stick and an easel, remote control cars, walkie talkies and a replacement ride on Mater for Miles, who calls himself, Mater. It was presents, sure, but for me, it was a whole lot more. It was about growing up some and experiencing Christmas joy all over again! Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!

(his pure elation, upon receiving his above request--love this boy!)

memory making

The week leading up to Christmas was filled with Christmas programs. . .and our little Charlie was a Christmas choir angel! (Both Luke and Miles had programs too, but we were so far away, that I only captured videos of them. . .)

We also spent time cookie making and cookie decorating and of course cookie eating. . .

And last but not least, baby Way was sweet enough to let me soak up some of his cuteness during his very first Christmas!

 Love these fun memories!!

2012 Christmas card flops

One of our favorite things about the Christmas season, and I know I've mentioned it before, and I know I'll mention it again, is mail time!!! We LOVE going to get the mail to see the faces of our friends and family! In fact, it's almost a fight over who gets to actually open the mailbox!!

Anyway, this year, our card was of just our boys. We managed to secure a time to head out to the Botanical Gardens and I got to snap away! "They" say that in order to get 1 good photo, you have to take 100 shots! Well, I pretty much had to do just that! I do love the 1 shot that turned out, but I had to share several of the flops, because they are just too funny! I'm sure that behind every delicious Christmas photo card we got this year, this was going on too! If not, do share your secret!!!

Christmas card flops 2012
Hee hee

First up, we have praying Charlie! I'm thinking he's praying he doesn't drop Way. That, or he's praying for his crazy big brother! Yikes!

Next, we have a decent . . .oh wait, what's wrong, Miles?

This one, we attempted the 4 boy stack. But for various reasons, (Miles) it wasn't going to work either.

Here, Luke looks a tad disinterested, but more concerning would be Miles about to eat baby Way! Don't worry, he was really going in for a kiss!

And finally, well, you take your pick on this one!

Always so much fun getting the pics, but even more  fun when we find the winner!!!

Merry Christmas to all!!!! And thanks to my good friend, Kelly, who put our card together! Check her out at LibbyLu Designs if you need cards done for next year!

Oh jingle bells, jingle bells!

December always brings a crazy calendar. I read and listen to people talk about how busy they are this month and sometimes, how stressful things get because of busy schedules. Yes, we have that too and as much as I don't want us to be crazy busy, I do look at the things on our calendar, and I'm thankful that most of the goings on around here (minus Chad's broken hand) are all things we want to be doing! With that said. . .what have we been doing?? Well, if you sing along to the tune of Jingle Bells, it might make this post more fun. . . (all pics have been taken with my phone, which I have not mastered yet--apologies for the bluriness)!!

Dashing Playing in the snow (fake that is)

visiting Santa too. . .

and making lots of treats, that you might enjoy too!

Playing basketball,

and smiling here and there! Oh jingle bells, jingle bells. . .

Jingle all the way!

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

And just like that. . .it's December!!

Christmas came early this season--or the decorating did anyway! I was a little hesitant to give up the fall season and the focus on being thankful, but we do love the Christmas season, and come December 26th, it always seems to go by so quickly! So, we embraced the early Thanksgiving, and put up lights last weekend, in November. Our first year ever to have Christmas lights up, while pumpkins still sat on our porch! The pumpkins are gone now, but we picked out our tree in November too---the last day though, so as not to have a dead tree before Christmas! We go for the real trees, mainly because I am not flexible! My hubby and little Chuckles struggle with allergies due to a live tree, but we load them up on allergy medicine and plug ahead. One of the many reasons I love my husband! Thank you, honey!

So, lights are up, and yesterday we decorated our tree! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
